Description | Stem about 10 cm tall, from vertical or oblique subterranean caudex with dark remains of leaf bases above; basal leaves erect, lanceolate, acute, 3-nerved, grayish- pubescent on both sides, stem leaves few, narrower; heads 4—6, compressed; involu- cral bracts in several rows, dark brown, shiny, greenish and lanate at base, in pistillate plants lanceolate, acute, in staminate plants ovate or oblong, blunt. | ||
Ecology | Sandy soil on tundra and in the mountains. A. carpatica, with leaves glabrous above, described from the Carpathian Mountains, var. Laestadiana from Lapland. | ||
