| Taxonomy notes | Extremely variable. Specimens from the arctic are low-growing, coarse and very woolly (var. congéstus), whereas most others are taller and less densely pubescent [var. palastris (L.) Fern.]. Specimens with scattered hairs on stem and leaves also occur (var. ténsus Fern.). |
