DescriptionStem tall, coarse, brownish-pubescent, especially above, from coarse, horizontal, woody caudex; leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate in outline, nearly glabrous above, pubescent on nerves below, deeply pinnatifid into broad lobes, armed with weak prickles; heads large, 1-3, nodding in age, floccose-pubescent; involucral bracts linear, ending in weak spines, the outer shorter than the inner; flowers purplish, soon turning brown; pappus brown.
EcologyMeadows. Described from Kamchatka.

Broken line on circumpolar map indicates range of var. Weyrichii (Maxim.) Herder (C. Weyrichii Maxim.) and subsp. pectinéllum (Gray) Kitamura (C. pectinellum Gray); the two ranges are about the same.
