Description | Stems stout, from long, subterranean rhizome; leaves sessile, entire, oblong- lanceolate, thin, pale, glabrous, the lower more or less pinnatifid, with small end lobe; heads few, with blue to purplish flowers; achenes with short beak. | ||
Ecology | Moist meadows; also adventive both in Europe and in America. Described from “Tataria and Siberia.” | ||
Taxonomy notes | The species has been divided into the Eurasiatic subsp. tatarica and the American subsp. pulchélla (Pursh) Stebbins (see synonymy above); it is uncertain to which type the Alaskan plant belongs. |
