DescriptionRhizome nearly black, creeping, with scattered stems; spring phase with light- brown stem and few short branches, later developing into whorls of branches; sum- mer phase with grayish-green, thin, striated, very rough stems; sheaths green with scarious-margined teeth; branches numerous, slender, 3-angled; first sheath of branches shorter than corresponding sheath of stem; cone obtuse, long-peduncled, soon withering.
EcologyCommon in woods of the interior.
