DescriptionSmall or medium-sized tree with long narrow crown, but becoming shrubby and prostrate at its altitudinal limit. Young twigs reddish pubescent; needles curved upward, blue-green, obtuse, with stomata on all sides; staminate flowers bluish; cones oblong, erect, purple-colored, with fan-shaped scales.
EcologyCommon, sometimes dominant, on mountain slopes, chiefly in acid soil in interior, extending to about 1,500 meters. Described from interior northwestern North America.
