DescriptionSimilar to subsp. spicatum, but taller, with long, dense, contracted, somewhat lobed panicle; narrower, longer, more aristate glumes and lemmas, with longer, straighter awns; inner glume mostly extends beyond florets; culm and sheaths strongly pubescent.
EcologyMeadows and woods in coastal belt. Described from Alaska.

A specimen similar to the South American subsp. phleoides (D’Urv.) Hult. (T. phleoides D’Urv.) has been collected at Mendenhall (close to Juneau).
