DescriptionSimilar to subsp. vaginatum, but culms 15-20 cm tall; tussocks very compact, tall; spike globose to depressed-globose; scales with darker center.
EcologyArctic and mountain tundra, predominant in large areas in somewhat higher and dryer parts of the northern coastal plain. Range little known, in Siberia probably at least to the Lena River.
