DescriptionDensely caespitose, lacking long, scaly runners; culms slender, sharply triangular, with numerous dried-up leaves at base; leaves thin, 1-2 mm wide; terminal spike staminate, the lateral narrowly cylindrical; lowest bract short; scales purplish-black, obtuse; perigynia slightly biconvex, nerveless, mostly purplish-black, with short beak.
EcologyTundra bogs, spruce muskeg.

Similar to C. Bigelowii, with which it hybridizes, but differs in lacking long, scaly runners, and in being more slender, with narrower leaves and narrow spikes.
