DescriptionStoloniferous, with long, horizontal, scaly runners; culm stiff, with numerous basal leaves; leaves stiff, light green, 2-3 mm wide, much shorter than culm; spikes 3-5, erect, the terminal with pistillate flowers above, the lateral pistillate, the upper sessile, the lower short-peduncled; lowest bract shorter than head, with very short sheath; scales suborbicular, dark brown with green midvein, hyaline-margined, nearly concealing perigynia; perigynia obovate, nerveless, very short-beaked; 3 stigmas.
