DescriptionCaespitose; culm scabrous above, slender, triangular, much longer than leaves, phyllopodic; leaves about 3-5 mm wide; spikes 3—4, approximate, ellipsoid-cylin- drical, the apical with pistillate flowers above, the lateral pistillate or with few basal, staminate flowers; lowest bract foliaceous, shorter than inflorescence; scales narrowly ovate, acute, usually shorter than perigynia, purplish-red, more or less hyaline-margined; perigynia broadly ovate, nerveless, pale, sometimes purplish below the 0.4-mm-long, bidentate, purplish beak; 3 stigmas.
