DescriptionLoosely caespitose; culms longer than leaves, glabrous, with bladeless, brownish sheaths at base; leaves 1.5-2 mm wide; spikes 3-5, oblong, the lower long-pedun- cled, the apical with staminate flowers at base, the lateral pistillate; lowest bract foliaceous, lacking sheath, extending beyond inflorescence; scales ovate, obtuse or somewhat acute, purplish-black, with conspicuous green midvein; perigynia ovate, longer and broader than scales, nerved, sparsely ciliate in margin, with very short, slightly bidentate beak; stigmas 2(-3).
