DescriptionPlant with long, dark brown, scaly rhizomes and rust-colored tomentum on roots; culms obtusely triangular, smooth; leaves about 2 mm wide; bracts with short, dark, sheaths and slender blades; terminal spike staminate, the lateral 2-3 pistil- late, few-flowered, the lowest long-peduncled, drooping; scales purplish-black, broadly ovate, obtuse or mucronate, shorter but at base broader than the light- colored perigynia; perigynia elliptic, obscurely nerved, with inconspicuous beak.
