DescriptionPulvinate, forming rounded, compact cushions; spherical shoots with obovate, glabrous leaves, ciliate in margin, with large hyaline cilia, broad at base; flowering stem very short, up to 10 mm long, slender, leafless; flowers more or less unisexual, the female with large purplish carpels, divergent in apex, and stamens with small anthers, the male with abortive carpels and large yellow anthers; sepals ciliate, re- flexed in fruit; petals very narrow, yellow. _
EcologyCrevices in rocks, ledges, calcareous gravel, in the mountains to over 2,000 meters.
