DescriptionFlowering stems erect, from thin, long, branching and creeping rootstock; leaves few, round-reniform, coriaceous, obscurely 5-lobed, serrate; flowers solitary; calyx lobes ovate to ovate-oblong; petals white, obovate; female flowers with dwarfed stamens; male flowers with dwarfed pistils, on different plants; fruit at first firmly attached to calyx, hard and red-tinged, when ripe loosening from calyx, juicy and yellow, quickly dropping off.
EcologyPeat bogs. Described from Sweden.
UsesFruit excellent to eat when ripe, keeps without addition of sugar over the winter, and makes very good jam. Does not fruit in years when heavy frost occurs during flowering time; thus, fruiting occurs more often in milder southern areas than in interior or northern areas.
