DescriptionDensely tufted, caudex covered with dark-brown, marcescent stipules; basal leaves 3-foliate; leaflets with 57 long, somewhat acute teeth, pubescent with long, silky hairs above, tomentose and long-haired beneath, especially on nerves; petioles with long, spreading, white hairs; flowers solitary or sometimes 2, large; bractlets and sepals lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate; petals yellow, obcordate; style filiform.
EcologyRocks, scree slopes, ridges. Type locality given first (erroneously) as Dahuria, later corrected to St. Lawrence Bay, Chukchi Peninsula.

Highly variable; probably forms hybrids with P. villosa and P. Vahliana, and perhaps with others as well. (See color section.)
