DescriptionPlant often reddish, 10-15 cm tall, with decumbent, basal, leafy shoots; leaves short-petiolated, mostly in 2-3 pairs, small, oblong to narrowly elliptic, blunt, en- tire or repand-denticulate; flowers small, mostly 1 or 2, often nodding; petals red- dish-violet to pink; seeds smooth.
EcologyMoist places in the mountains to about 2,000 meters.

Some specimens belong to var. pselido-scapdsum (Haussk.) Hult. (E. pseudo- scaposum Haussk.), described from Unalaska, with sessile, more toothed leaves and long-stipitate pods.
