DescriptionStems 1 to several, with withered leaves at base; basal leaves obovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, long-petiolated, pubescent with more or less appressed hairs, less so beneath; stem leaves several, sessile, oblong to lanceolate; inflorescence short; pedi- cels about as long as calyx; calyx with straight, not hooked hairs and ovate-lanceolate teeth; corolla blue, rarely white; nutlets black, blunt, shiny.
EcologyAlpine and subalpine meadows, to at least 1,500 meters. M. alpestris described from the Sudet Mountains (Czechoslovakia), subsp. asiatica from Kamchatka.
