DescriptionStoloniferous; stem erect, glabrous; leaves sessile, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, serrate, acute, glabrous on both faces; inflorescence a terminal, cylindrical spike; bracts linear-setaceous, longer than flowers; pedicels and calyx glabrous; corolla lilac, glabrous.
EcologyIntroduced at Manley Hot Springs. Type locality not given, presumably Europe.

M. piperita L., peppermint, considered to be the hybrid M. aquatica X spicata, has been found escaped from cultivation in several places; it differs in having flowers in spikes, petiolated leaves and pedicels, and a glabrous calyx tube.
