DescriptionStem single or several, from taproot, simple or often much branched, witl retrorse, white hairs; basal leaves small; lower stem leaves pinnatifid, with crenat pinnae, the upper gradually reduced; calyx 2-cleft, glabrous or somewhat pubescen at base, with 4 main veins; corolla with straight tube, yellow or reddish, or yellov with red spots above; the upper lip with pair of long teeth, the lower 3-lobed, min utely ciliated; capsule horizontal, oblong-linear, acute.
EcologyA common plant; on tundra and in the mountains to at least 2,000 meters. De. scribed from Labrador.

Var. sulphiirea Hult., with corolla large (up to 20 mm long) and unicolor (sul- phur-yellow) is found on the upper Blackstone River, in the Yukon.
