DescriptionStems few, from short caudex; leaves glabrous or floccose, more or less succulent, the lower broadly elliptic to roundish, entire or coarsely crenulate toward apex; cauline leaves few, reduced, mostly pinnately lobed; heads several; ligules 6-12 mm long, yellow; achenes glabrous.
EcologyWet places in the mountains, to at least 1,000 meters. Described from Arkansas.

Most specimens belong to the low-growing northern type, var. borealis (Torr. & Gray) Greenm. (S. aureus L. var. borealis Torr. & Gray).
